Medical Examinations FAQs
Everything You Need to Know About Our Services
Do you do cross border medicals?
Yes, we require the medical forms to be completed for the country that you are going too, in order for
us to establish all the required tests and screenings. We then quote you for the exact requirements as
prescribed by the client requesting the cross border medical.
How long does it take you to do a medical?
Under normal operating conditions a medical should not take longer than 2.5 hours. However, the following factors could lead to delays:
- Arrival outside of the scheduled booking time (this
results in unnecessary operational bottle necks. - Arrival without the required booking confirmation having
been received in advance (proof of payment or purchase order). - If challenges or difficulty is experienced
whilst testing the individual, that results in retests or special interventions.
What is the radius of travel for your mobile unit?
We travel anywhere within South Africa if the client accept the travel cost, travel time on the road and
accommodation cost (where applicable).
How long in advance must we book the mobile unit?
We recommend that you plan ahead as far as possible. The mobile is often booked out 2 months in
advance with already confirmed bookings.
Do your medicals include Fear of Heights and Confined Spaces screening?
Yes, this is included in all our medicals as a standard.
Why is my employee being referred for an diagnostic audiogram?
In terms of the COID Act there is a suspected noise induced hearing loss for possible COID reporting
and/or in terms of the OHS Act there is a STS (Standard Threshold Shift) of more than 25dB, which requires a
diagnostic audiogram before any further monitoring can legally be done by the medical service provider.
What is the difference between Pre-employment, Periodic and Exit medicals?
Pre-employment/Entry – Must be done within 30 days of commencement of employment or entering the new
site.
Periodic – Must be done annually or at intervals stipulated by the Medical Surveillance Program.
Exit – Must be done within 30 days of termination of employment or exiting any site or mine.
